Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE): No ban on combustion engines Through the back door - What is the EU Commission planning again?
According to leaked media reports, the EU Commission is planning a tough intervention in the European car market. From 2030, rental car providers and large companies will apparently only be allowed to buy electric vehicles. The EU Commission is expected to have a concrete proposal for this by the fall at the latest.
If this is true, it would be nothing other than a ban on combustion engines through the back door. According to expert estimates, 60 percent of the new car business would be affected by the ban, while 40 percent would be accounted for by private individuals. Where is the technological openness announced by the EU Commission? According to the President of the Taxpayers Association of Europe, Michael Jaeger, this threatens to fall by the wayside.
This proposal is completely out of touch with reality and seems to have been drawn up by Rubik's Rules on the drawing board. Because there are not enough charging points across Europe, nor are there enough affordable e-vehicles. The victims will be the citizens and companies, who would be massively restricted in their basic right to individual mobility.
Apparently, there is no impact assessment, otherwise such an idea would not even be put on the table! We call on the EU Commission to stop this project, says the taxpayers' organization!
